From this awkward beginning, Dan and Drey stumble into an unexpected friendship that threatens either to undo them, or to provide the vital change they both need to move forward in their lives.

SaturDAY NOVEMBEr 11

OPEn

Recommended: Playbill Series: The Chucky Danger Band 8:00pm Eric Harvie Theatre

Want to know the recipe for a very memorable event? Mix four well-traveled, gifted young musicians from PEI; 16 to 20 original, hook-laden songs laced with hope, humour, angst, love, and inner struggle; oodles of stage craft blended with showmanship and unexpected surprises a large handful of the sweet sound of two brothers singing in perfect harmony; a good measure of straight forward yet innovative and unforgettable lead guitar playing (the tasty kind) and a rock and roll backbeat with a sprinkling of samba, shuffle, funk and percussive variety. Blend the above ingredients, place in a theatre with stage and audience, let simmer for an hour then bring to a boil for 30 minutes, serve hot to young and old alike. This is how you experience The Chucky Danger Band, winners of the 2006 ECMA for Pop Recording of the Year and one of the most talented, exciting and enjoyable bands seen in years. Standing ovations, enthusiastic fans, front pages of newspapers The Chucky Danger Band has been on a rapid rise since their debut in 2005. Dressed in trademark tailored black suits and ties and with a fresh pop/rock sound, they deliver high-energy, polished, and memorable performances that defy their young age. This is a band with impact and immediate appeal with a sound set squarely in the centre of todays music scene and taking a backseat to no one. Their debut CD Colour catapulted their music to radio stations across the country, resulting in a legion of new supporters. With touches of Sting, The Beatles, U2, and The Killers infused into their very original music and song and winning performances brimming with talent, showmanship and stagecraft, The Chucky Danger Band is riding a wave of popularity that is steadily moving west. Highly recommended for any age.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at The Banff Centre Box office in the lobby of the Eric Harvie Theatre. Advance purchase is recommended.

Recommended: Playbill Series: The James Keelaghan Trio 8:00pm Margaret Greenham Theatre

Folk music tells the stories of people and places, and Canadas James Keelaghan is certainly that kind of storyteller mining the past for musical inspiration. His most celebrated songs are finely-crafted pieces that illustrate his compelling ability to create superb, deeply-moving stories about events, people, himself, and this land. Now, after nine albums, three Juno nominations and a Juno award, and over 18 years as one of this countrys best-known exports on the folk circuit, Keelaghan has returned to one of his loves the traditional ballads of the British Isles and the result is A Few Simple Verses, one of the best albums of his career. In reconnecting with this music, he has found fresh inspiration and affirmation for what he does as a folksinger and songwriter. A guitarist with fingers of steel and with a smooth, coffee-rich, baritone voice that is the perfect vehicle for his personal, intelligent, and meaningful songs, James is a compelling performer. Along with his trio, he develops an intimate rapport with audiences through his stories, enticing melodies, and sense of humour, and then leaves them spellbound with passionate renditions of songs that touch on universal emotions and relate the past to the present.

Tickets are $19 and can be purchased at The Banff Centre Box office in the lobby of the Eric Harvie Theatre. Advance purchase is recommended.

Recommended: Playbill Series: Xavier Rudd 7:30pm Eric Harvie Theatre

Last spring, Australian-Canadian surf/roots artist Xavier Rudd mesmerized our audience with a sold-out concert in support of his critically-acclaimed new release Food In The Belly. Now this one-man whirlwind of acoustic soul, manic fretwork, rhythmic stomps, exotic percussion, and haunting didgeridoo returns for what promises to be another amazing night of his music. Playing all sorts of instruments to create a powerful, big sound, Rudd is a new kind of folk musician, a one-man band for a modern age with songs about humanity, spirituality, social issues, the environment, and compassionate songs encouraging understanding and celebrating life. Rudds conviction, passion, and skill at playing a number of instruments simultaneously have stunned audiences and critics alike and earned him a live following that packs clubs, theatres and halls all over the world. Dont miss this chance to catch this special artist again.
