The international jury announces the Best of the Festival award winners, followed by a screening of most of the award-winning films. The Bill March Summit of Excellence Award is presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the mountain world.

Half Nelson is the story of an unlikely friendship that brings hope to a man trapped by his own demons. Dan Dunne (Ryan Gosling) is an idealistic inner-city junior high school teacher. Though he can get it together in the classroom, he spends his time outside school on the edge of consciousness. He juggles his hangovers and his homework, keeping his lives precariously separated, until one of his troubled students, Drey (Shareeka Epps), catches him in a compromising situation. From this awkward beginning, Dan and Drey stumble into an unexpected friendship that threatens either to undo them, or to provide the vital change they both need to move forward in their lives.

Also featured is the short film �Stationary� by Canadian filmmaker Monica Rho. Proceeds from ticket sales support both the Walter Phillips Gallery and a different non-profit each month. This month Reel Time supports the Banff Volunteer Centre.

At the beginning of each new exhibition, the Walter Phillips Gallery invites staff, artists, and work studies to make their coffee break an Art Break. Jim Cuddy is best known for his work with Blue Rodeo, the band he founded over 20 years ago with his songwriting partner Greg Keelor. As the band�s lead singer, Jim has helped to make Blue Rodeo one of Canada�s most popular and respected bands. Blue Rodeo have recorded hundreds of songs, released over 10 full-length albums and toured the world playing their unique pop-rock country blend in front of thousands of people. Having wrapped up the summer with Blue Rodeo gigs, Jim heads into the fall with a brand new solo album The Light That Guides You Home, the long-awaited follow-up to his 1998 gold selling debut All In Time. With superb story songs that go from silly and fun to serious and political, Jim embarks on a national tour in late October with his band � guitarist Colin Cripps, bassist Bazil Donovan, drummer Joel Anderson, violinist Anne Lindsay and pianist Bob Packwood.

Recommended: Playbill Series: The James Keelaghan Trio 8:00pm Margaret Greenham Theatre

Folk music tells the stories of people and places, and Canada�s James Keelaghan is certainly that kind of storyteller � mining the past for musical inspiration. His most celebrated songs are finely-crafted pieces that illustrate his compelling ability to create superb, deeply-moving stories about events, people, himself, and this land. Now, after nine albums, three Juno nominations and a Juno award, and over 18 years as one of this country�s best-known exports on the folk circuit, Keelaghan has returned to one of his loves � the traditional ballads of the British Isles � and the result is A Few Simple Verses, one of the best albums of his career. In reconnecting with this music, he has found fresh inspiration and affirmation for what he does as a folksinger and songwriter. A guitarist with fingers of steel and with a smooth, coffee-rich, baritone voice that is the perfect vehicle for his personal, intelligent, and meaningful songs, James is a compelling performer. Last spring, Australian-Canadian surf/roots artist Xavier Rudd mesmerized our audience with a sold-out concert in support of his critically-acclaimed new release Food In The Belly.
